ART EXHIBITION
TOUCH – DON’T TOUCH
December 2021
Summary
Touch – Don’t Touch, a live and digital exhibition curated by Maryam Hafizirad, presents the evolution of two contrasting Toronto artists. Deaf Chinese artist Wei Wang‘s challenging inside glass-bottle oil painting cannot be touched. It is juxtaposed with Deaf Sri Lankan artist with Usher Syndrome, Nivejah Navarathinam‘s mixed-media 3-D tactile painting exploration encouraging touch. The pandemic has discouraged touch to ensure our wellbeing – a new reality at odds with the Deaf community. Touch is essential to Deaf and DeafBlind communities for meaning and connection in language and life. For its 15-year anniversary, we celebrate the evolution of the DEAF CULTURE CENTRE, Deaf artists, and community connection.
Supported by a grant from the Toronto Arts Council.
